History

Tignes

Tignes, a picturesque Alpine destination in the Savoie region of France, has a rich history intertwined with the development of modern skiing and winter sports. The original village of Tignes, located in the Isère valley, existed for centuries until it was submerged in 1952 to create the Lac du Chevril for hydroelectric power.

This event led to the construction of the modern resort of Tignes, which is comprised of several villages at varying altitudes, each contributing to the vibrant and dynamic character of the area. Tignes became part of the renowned Espace Killy ski area, named after the Olympic skier Jean-Claude Killy, and has since become a world-class skiing destination, offering exceptional slopes and activities, making it a favorite among winter sports enthusiasts and travelers from around the globe.
